Chikwawa Diocese has a new Youth Chaplain

Fr Gift Chikwapa has been appointed as the diocesan chaplain for the youths, replacing Fr John Lockie who has served in that capacity for 6 years.

Through a letter of appointment shared both to the outgoing and the incoming chaplain, and the notification letter of the same sent to the outgoing chaplain, the appointment is with immediate effect.

In the letter of appointment, the bishop has expressed his trust in the abilities of Fr Chkwapa to competently serve the youths who are the future of the Church.

“Bearing in mind that the youth of today are tomorrow’s Church and Society and that they need proper guidance for them to mature well, youth apostolate therefore calls for a spirit of commitment and mature approach.” Reads part of the letter.

In his words of appreciation to Fr Lockie who is the outgoing youth chaplain, the bishop thanked him for his commitment despite his other commitments to other apostolates and offices.

“Following your request I am pleased to inform you that I have relieved you of the Diocesan Youth Chaplaincy ministry. On behalf the Church I sincerely thank you for your commitment. I know, it was not easy since you had other pastoral responsibilities that were too demanding. To have time for the youth therefore was an immense sacrifice.” The letter states.

Fr Chikwapa was ordained in 2020 and is currently serving at Misomali parish where is the curate. He will be accompanying all the youths in the diocese the main groups being Young Christian Workers and Young Christian Students.
