Chikwawa diocese to Host the national launch of Pontifical Missionary Union
The Catholic Church in Malawi, through the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS), will on 5th February 2022, launch the Pontifical Missionary Union in the diocese of Chikwawa. The celebration will be held at St Michael’s cathedral Chikwawa on a day the diocese will celebrate the day for Consecrated life, normally celebrated on 2nd February at the occasion of the feast of the presentation.
Through a communique issued from the office of the pastoral coordinator, this day has been set aside to celebrate the four missionary jubilees of the Pontifical Mission societies.
“On the same day, we will also celebrate the National Launch of Four Missionary jubilees, namely; 400 years of the creation of the congregation for Propaganda Fidei; 200 years of foundation of the Missionary Society for the Propagation of Faith; 100 years of the creation of Pontifical Mission Societies, and 150 years of the birth of the Blessed Paulo Manna, the founder of the Fourth missionary society of PMS”. The diocesan pastoral coordinator adds by calling all priests, religious and all the lay faithful to come in large numbers for these clebrations.
During the celebration, as part of activities on the Day of consecrated life, there shall be lighting and procession with candles by the priests and the religious: Launch of four missionary jubilees for PMS, (within mass) and talks on Four Missionary Jubilees for PMS (after mass) as part of national Launch for the Pontifical Missionary Union (PMU).
The day will be lightened by sports activities between Catholic MEN Organization and the Clergy, and Catholic Women Organization and their lady counterparts, religious sisters.
The Day for Consecrated Life is a day set apart for prayer for those women and men who devoted their lives to God.
The Pontifical Missionary Union is a Catholic Missionary Society founded by Paulo Manna in 1916, with an aim to increase awareness of the Church’s worldwide mission among people engaged in pastoral ministry.
