CCJP –DOC empowers GBV champions
The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace under the DOC- Social Services directorate distributed bicycles and reflectors to Gender Based Violence champions in the district as one way of empowering and motivating them as they carry out their duties.
The distribution of the items took place in five Traditional Authorities of Kasisi, Katunga, Maseya, TA Lundu and Ndakwera in Chikwawa district. The activity took place in two days from the 3rd to 4th August 2023.
The main objective of the distribution exercise was to ease mobility challenges that these people were facing and to improve their visibility within their locations and boost their morale.
Addressing the gathering, the representative of the district gender office applauded the CCJP for equipping the GBV champions with the bicycles signaling betters working conditions for the champions.
On their part, the GBV champions applauded the CCJP for the timely support which they said will enable them work diligently as they promote gender equality and eliminate gender based violence in their communities.
Diocese of Chikwawa through the Social Services Directorate receives funding from the World Bank and the Government of Malawi under the Shire Valley Gender Based Violence Project to sensitize communities along the Shire Valley Water project on issues of gender based violence with an aim of making sure there is equality among men and women but also to eliminate all traces of GVB.
As the Shire Valley Irrigation Project is being implemented within these Traditional Authorities, issues of GBV are on the rise and so this project is very vital in curbing such practices and there is already so much impact that this project has made.
