Chikumba hailed for excellence

Chikumba Catholic Primary School has been hailed for its exceptional performance in examinations. During an event organized by the Catholic Education Commission of the Diocese of Chikwawa, the School was recognized and rewarded for excelling in education in the Diocese.

In a bid to motivate and encourage education institutions, the Education Commission has begun a program to reward schools for their excellent performances. The first to be awarded the trophy is Chikumba Primary School in Molere Parish, Thyolo district.

Based on 2021 Primary School Leaving Certificate Examinations, the school had 100 percent pass and selection rate. Out of 58 students who sat for PSLCE, all the 58 were selected and many of them to prestigious national and district Secondary Schools around the country.

Narrating the secret behind such a success, The Head teacher for the school attributed hard work, cooperation and dedication as the most important tenets.

In his homily, Bishop Peter Musikuwa urged all to use the gifts God has given for the benefit of his kingdom.

“Teaching profession is a gift. Just as the workers, we must use this gift by committing ourselves fully to the task we have. Let us avoid being lazy and indifferent to the plight and education needs of the learners we have in our care”

As a way of appreciating their hard work, the school was handed a trophy and Two hundred thousand kwacha.

Other schools that were recognized are, Bangula Catholic Primary School in Nsanje and Bereu Catholic Primary School in Chikwawa. They walked away with One hundred and Fifty thousand kwacha, and One hundred thousand kwacha respectively.

Next year the program will extend to Catholic Secondary Schools and Community Day Secondary Schools.

All the three schools have been the top performers in their respective districts.
