Chikwawa parish
Chikwawa parish
It is also called St Micheals Parish
Established in 1918
Its area of jurisdiction covers part of Blantyre district in the escarpment.
Most of the outchurches in the escarpment are in hard to reach areas such that mobility in these areas is difficult.
One of the challenges faced by people in this area is flooding of the shire river which at times renders many homeless and leaves them vulnerable to poverty.
It has a population of 8,500 catholics.
Many of these are subsistent farmers.
The current parish priest is rev Fr Lazarous Maloya being assisted by Rev Fr Peter Ntayamanja as curate.
