ECM trains lay representatives
The Episcopal Conference of Malawi through its Pastoral Commission is currently training representatives of different lay groups in Chikwawa Diocese.
Called Catechism on the dignity of the aged, the training aims at equipping the participants with the necessary knowledge as they are in constant contact with the aged in their respective areas.
Fr Henry Chimkanda, who is one of the facilitators, reckons that the Church is geared towards protecting the aged by sensitizing our Christians ensuring that the dignity of old people is protected. “We expect these representatives to relay the same message to the rest of the faithful in their parishes and different lay groups” Said Fr Chimkanda.
The training is being funded and conducted by the Pastoral Commission and has drawn representatives from all parishes and different lay action groups, among them Catholic Men Association, Catholic Women Association and so on. The training began on 22nd October and will end on 23rd October 2024 at Bangula Pastoral Centre.
Recently, different incidents of violence and abuse against the elderly have been reported validating the Church’s call to protect those that are weak and vulnerable.
