Bishop Musikuwa to Launch Food Distribution Programme

Bishop Musikuwa to Launch Food Distribution Programme

Bishop of the Diocese of Chikwawa, Rt Rev Peter Peter Muskuwa, will on Friday 26th August 2022 preside over the launch of a food distribution Programme that will benefit about 1500 people in the diocese. The launch takes place at Njale Parish in Thyolo district.

The 40 million kwacha programme targets people affected by series of disasters including persistent dry spells that led to poor harvests for the 2020-2021 season. Apparently, there is looming hunger in most parts of the Diocesan. The food distribution programme comes with donation from Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Intergral Human Development.

Apart from the faithfuls of Njale Parish, others to benefit are those from Molere Parish, Fatima parish, Bangula Parish, Ngabu Parish and Changoima Parish. Each beneficiary will receive a 50Kg Bag of maize and a 5kg pack of beans.

Of late, Bishop Musikuwa has been making appeals to well-wishers, seeking aid for various households affected by drought and a recent flooding which was aggravated by Cyclone Ana. These disasters have rendered thousands of people food insecure. The Districts in the geographical boundary of the diocese are those often described by the Malawi government as hard hit by these disasters.
