Stand and defend your faith – Archbishop Tambala urges young people

The Chairperson for the Episcopal Conference of Malawi, Archbishop George Desmond Tambala has urged young Catholics to stand and defend their faith.

The call was made during the opening Eucharistic celebration for the National Youth Conference underway at Limbe Cathedral in Blantyre Archdiocese.

Preaching during the mass in which the Church was celebrating the solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, Bishop Tambala said that it is very clear that other people of different faiths deny Mary the respect and honor she deserves. “Our teaching on the Blessed Virgin Mary are not a work of fiction, these teachings are based on scripture.” Said Archbishop Tambala. Those, he said, that insinuate that the virgin Mary is like a envelop that is only important as long as it carries the letter and loses its value once the letter is taken out of it, would be best described as psychologically unsound.

Attended by many youths, the mass was a befitting grand opening to the conference, invigorating the people as they ready themselves to dive into the contents of the conference.

Earlier in the day, the youths had a spiritual retreat meant to prepare for the conference. Titled “Lord teach us how to pray” the youths were urged to pray without ceasing, knowing that God will never fail to answer prayers of those that come to Him in faith.
